I just received a new SMG-8112 and upon initial activation everything went smoothly, connected to Wi-Fi and I was able to control the unit with my phone etc. It then prompted me to install firmware update. I initialized the update and sometime later i got a message saying that the update had failed. Once I was able to get out of this page the unit was no longer connected to Wi-Fi and I had lost all control except for physical remotes. I attempted to reset the unit and reconnect it to the Wi-Fi but to no avail. I either get a message that it is unable to be added, or it is unable to connect to Wi-Fi. I have tried many times and many resets, but it is still giving me the same errors.
Please help, unfortunate waste of money if i can't get this working

hi, could you please provide your app account and device virtual ID?
my app account is mmemalaysia / and I am not sure what you mean by device ID....but this is what is on the sticker

oh,Please remove the passwords; we only need your app accounts. The device virtual ID can be viewed by tapping the icon in the upper-right corner of the device panel in tuya app.

Apologies, my app account is ken.mcmillan63@gmail.com and as i said in the OP , I am not able to add the unit to the app anymore therefore the virtual ID is not there.
The errors I get are ...."failed to add the device"...or "Failed to connect to modem"
